¡Hola Barcelona!

Every since Barcelona came on my radar, I’ve been itching to get there. Then when Elpida and I bought our tickets, I couldn’t help but become giddy thinking about our trip. I found myself awake night after night –searching Instagram, blogs, and pinning anything having to do with Barcelona. It’s true! Even my students noticed my excitement. Randomly, I would have someone come up and hug me while saying, “Yay! Barcelona!” Who knew they could be so excited for a trip they weren’t going on?!?!

To say the least, Barcelona did not disappoint and I’m looking forward to my return to my second favorite city in Europe. Can you believe that? I!  LOVED! Barcelona! I felt a little guilty at times- I felt like I was having an affair with Italy. Italy is still number one for many reasons – one being, pizza every street.

Our time was spent walking over 10 kilometers everyday! We really saw almost all of Barcelona. We saw Parc Güell, Arc de Triomf, La Sagrada Familia, Columbus Monument, Casa Batllo, and many other sights. We missed out on the beach. I’m really bummed about this because it was one of my main reasons to go to Barcelona now. So on my next trip, I’ll be there!

Anyway, we also ate some amazing food! We had traditional paella, bravas, and other tapas. We also got to have tacos and nachos with some delicious melted cheddar cheese. Oh it was like heaven!

I think overall I love the spirit of Barcelona. It’s a city that’s alive. It’s so very different than Berlin. We could turn the corner and all of sudden there is a band in front of us. The neighborhood is out in the square dancing and eating paella. It’s fun to experience other cultures while traveling. My favorite observation was the fact that Spaniards flirt, Germans don’t. Sometimes while I’m out in Berlin I realize this but it really hit me when in Spain. It’s sad not to flirt. Anyway another example of how Barcelona and Berlin differ, we went to the drug store to get some painkillers for my knee. While we were there, the pharmacist kindly asked what we were doing in Barcelona, where we were from, and what we do. She was so sweet and friendly. I miss overly friendliness, pleasant conversations, and witty banter back and forth. Today marks 49 days until I get to experience the American friendliness.

Let the days fly by. Until next time... xoxo
Enjoy the pictures!
