Football. Field hockey. Fun.
This weekend has been full of sports and I am one happy girl. On Friday night, Deutschland played France. As you now know, Deutschland won by a very lucky header giving them a 1-0 victory. But story is way better than the victory.
Friday- I came home from school. I planned to change and head north to Prenzlaurberg to meet my colleague, Ben and friends. Let's just say I was running behind. I finally made it to the train station on my village and the S1 was packed. People were still waiting on the platform because they couldn't fit. At that time it was 5:30. If I wanted to watch the game I would need to stick around my village. Well the closest thing was the beer garden by the station. When I walked past, they weren't letting any one because of the amount of people already there! I kept walking and came upon a smaller beer garden and bar. I had a seat and before long I found myself having a wonderful 4th of July.
I found myself in the company of two old German men, beer, and a BBQ! It was really a wonderful game and time! The men spoke English. We talked about what I did, how long they were married, what Berlin was like after the war, jobs, places they traveled, German language, and of course, football and the importance of sports. At the end of the game, they were kind of enough to cover my two beers.
On Saturday morning, I picked up my friend Rachel from the airport and headed to a hockey fest. One of my students plays and I was invited to come last week. With the bike problem, I was unable to. So we went this weekend to their end of school fest. People of all ages can play and I did! It was fun! I could only play one game because I had other plans after but it was fun. I really want to join a team or at least practice. I know I'm out of shape and I so badly need to do something.
It's Sunday morning and Rachel is off to her next city in Germany. I am headed home to send emails, grab a bite to eat, and hopefully meet up with my friend Christina. And pick out clothes for the next two days so I don't have to worry about my suitcase anymore.
All my love! Hold tight almost home.
