Germany: Second Home

In the last week, I have completed my mid-terms. (No I don't know a grade, and no I won't tell you.) Plus, I have traveled to a different country. This week I traveled with Kara to visit the Lemmermann's in Germany. We flew in on Saturday afternoon, after a bit of confusion. Of course there was confusion, it wouldn't be a true Europe experience for me if it was simple. (Remember my last trip to Germany... oh, the stories.) Anyway, after an additional train ticket and bus ticket we made it to the airport with just 12 minutes to spare. Perfect timing!

After a short plane ride, we arrived in Bremen. The Lemmermann's picked us up and we started to their home in Bargstedt.

We started our evening off by playing Farkle and enjoying sweet, sweet treats from Hershey! Kara and I felt very spoiled because we haven't had anything Hershey or peanut putter in forever!

Later in the evening, we had dinner with Meike and Andreas. They are Petra and Jorg's best friends. I met them two summers ago at a BBQ they had for their daughter's birthday. We talked for hours and enjoyed ourselves over beer and other drinks. It was truly amazing to catch up!

In the morning, we had a traditional German breakfast with all the works. I've been missing all the rolls and jams. Breakfast includes rolls, jam, Nutella, sliced meats, fresh fruit, raw eggs, cheese, and spreads. I still believe when I start living on my way own, I will have a German breakfast.

Then we went on a walk around Bargstedt in the snow. I saw familiar places and I even saw the church where I worked for a week during the summer of 2010.

Afterwards, we went to Stadt for the day. Stadt is my favorite German town. It remind me of a fairy tale setting -very historic.

We enjoyed a German beer at a brewery around the town hall. Here is a picture of the Lemmermann's and I in the brewery.

After walking around Stadt and learning a few new German words! Then we went to a little cafe for dinner/coffe/dessert. While we waited, Paula enjoyed taking pictures of us! I thought she did a pretty good job!

And just like any American, Paula and Hannah became addicted to Temple Run.

Later, we watched Disciple Me in German. Hannah cuddled with us on the couch with all of her stuffed animals.

The next day, we went to school with Paula and Hannah. It was great to see the inside of a German classroom. Let's see what I noticed...

  • Cubbies were outside of the classroom
  • Students would change their shoes and put slippers on before entering the classroom
  • There is no teacher out at recess
  • For a half day, they had three breaks!
  • They have snack but have sandwiches a foot long, fresh fruit, and many rolls.
After school, we walked to Oma's house. Oma made us a very, very traditional German lunch.

After lunch we went back to Stadt, we enjoyed the afternoon of shopping and drinking coffee! Before I  left to go back to Italy, we updated our photo. Here is our first photo.

Then, Kara and I traveled to Venice. We took in some amazing views.

Then we had a little impromptu photo shoot in Venice. Just very casual.

Oh the other thing... I found a graduation dress and a little pink dress. I can't wait until it gets warmer here. I'm dying to wear it! I am looking forward to more coffee dates and other events around Perugia.

In a few weeks, I might be traveling back to Germany. The Lemmermann's invited me back to stay at Easter and Gareth is free at that time too!
