When the Sun Goes Down...

...there isn't much on a Tuesday night! I don't want to get ahead of myself here. So let's start at the beginning.

Since the last time I blogged I have had two days of Italian. Let me explain-

Class 9:00-10:30
Pausa (break) 10:30-10:45
Class 10:45-12:00
Pausa (break) 12:00-1:30
Class 1:30-3:00

I know it seems like break here, break there. But truly it's a lot of formal instruction. By the end, I'm dragging and trying desperately to keep my eyes open. No surprise, I understand most of the things she says and asks us but to speak Italian is challenging for me- any language! I don't know why I struggle so much. I am happy to learn though. I bought two notebooks today with little help and most of the time I can understand a conversation. We had homework the last couple of nights and Chocolate has been helping me out!

But just like at home, I get distracted by....

The view.

And food. No surprise.

Tomorrow we have a placement test. I'm not concerned. It is a multiple choose test and really what are they going to do? Say you don't know Italian? I could of told them that much! Moving on, after finishing my work yesterday -I created my first meal. Totally alone! I even turned on the gas stove! Huge accomplishment since I am terrified of fire.

Then, I meet Kara...

We got ice cream. My first gelato! It was not what I remembered. Still good but I can not wait to go to Florence this weekend if find exactly what I am looking for.
(Terrible picture but better than the one me licking it.)

It was like vanilla and chocolate chips.

Drum roll please... this is Kara! Just a face for you.

Then we went to a bar but it was only 9:30 so we were the only ones there. Kara chatted with the bartender while I looked like a mute mouse because I only speak a tiny bit of Italian and he can only speak a tiny bit of English. We left and sat outside for what seemed for-ever for my tush! We sat there so long we got a rose. See, there are men in the square that they buy roses from the grocery store and then try to sell them. I don't really understand if this works but there are about five guys. Well, the roses must of been dying so they gave each of us one. (Evidence below)

Later we went back and still there was only about a handful of people. We left around 11:30 and went to another bar. Truly that is what the Italians do -bar hop all night long. I don't really think the whole scene will be for me when it gets crowded. Anyway, at the next bar we met a couple of guys who spoke English.

Today, I had class again and then Umbra hosted a little get-together for students and tutors. Honestly, there are no outrageous stories. Umbra is chill -I mean if you want to you can make your own. But it's small talk and drinks. Tonight, we had wine and pizza on Umbra while Lauren, Kara, and I talked to an Italian about his favorite places to go in Florence and where to eat around Umbra.

I have a feeling Perugia has a routine. I haven't figured it out just yet but it seems possible.

If you missed my little announcement, I am going to FLORENCE this weekend! On Friday, we will celebrate a friend's birthday. She is very relaxed and not a drinker so she organized us to go to the Chocolate Factory, which is the heart of Perugia. I believe it's the biggest employment (?). Then, we will go for dinner. On Saturday, Lauren, Kara, Desiree (roommate) and I will travel to Florence by train. Then Sunday we are doing a tour of Perugia called, "Nooks and Crannies". It should be a fun packed weekend!

Update to follow soon. Be well my friends. I'm thinking of you. Can't wait for the Super Bowl! Some American TV! Plus, we can "watch" together. (It will be like 2 in the morning when it comes on!) I will be exhausted but I think it will be worth it.  I have heard that a local pub has American sports like ESPN. I need to check it out very soon!
