Never Miss A Moment

Yesterday morning, I met Kara and Lauren to attend the organic market in the center of Perugia. The sign told us it is always the first Sunday of the month. Well, little did we know -yesterday was a holiday! We showed up to the square and found men on motorcycles. At first, I thought they were organizing a ride but then soon realized there was one man on a bike wearing a skirt, mask, and had a broom on the back. This holiday is called Epiphany. I know little about it but I am trying hard to make sense and understand. From what I've read and been told, on January 5th, the eve of Epiphany, children put stockings out to be filled by a witch, Le Befana. The Le Befana is believed to be searching for Baby Jesus and that is why she is carrying gifts for children.

After walking through the crowd, we went to the market. The markets was filled with some fresh fruit and vegetables. It also had hand made bags, soap, pizza, and even some cheese like when you go to the bucher.

When we went at 10, the market was a little slow and very calm. Many students talked about it how cool it was later on so we must of been too early. Since the market took us all of 15 minutes, we decided to walk around. We went back down to where the ferris wheel is located and I took these pictures...

I can't wait for the fog to lift so we can see everything! It always seems to be foggy in the morning, as well as the afternoon. I'm not sure why that is. Later we decided to part ways until it was time for lunch.  At that point, Lauren and I decided to meet in the square -thinking nothing was going on. Well, let me tell you there is always something. In this case, there was a car show. It reminded me much of a car show at home. Many cars, men chatting, some with camera -most with cigars or cigarettes, and everyone buzzing with noise. More than that though -there are those classics and those who are wanna-bes.

Well after taking a few shots, we went back to cook. We made our first meal together.

This is our finished product. Not too bad but there is no dressing for our salads. Lauren hates dressing but I didn't eat the lettuce because of that reason. I got a recipe from my boss in Germany today so I'm going to try that!

Later, we went to our orientation. Most of the stuff you don't need to know about but they had the "state police" of Florence come in and talk about safety and how Americans are normally treated in Italy. It was very honest and many of the things he said I expected. However, there was one thing... And before I start I'm not voicing an opinion just stating a fact. Well, he told us that you are in Italy so you MUST learn to speak Italian. It makes it very hard to speak English in Italy. He siad you came to Italy, my country, so you should learn our language. So thoughts... when Americans say you came to our country learn English we are thought of to be rude and closed-minded....

Anyway, later I just went home made pasta and got ready for class. Today was my first day of our intensive Italian class. I'm in love. It's a long period of time but our teacher is so great! Her name is Marta. Unfortunately, she is only here a week and then she teaches elsewhere. Later we went to the grocery store to get some food for the week -maybe two and relaxed afterwards. I'm actually waiting for Kara to come over now.

Oh! In school news, I had to drop my photography class and I thought I could stay with four classes. Turns out I need to add one... I'm still in the waiting stage to find out what I get. I'm trying to pick classes that are cheap because if I really don't want to take it, what's the point. However, there is a food class for 540 and I really want to take it with many trips around Italy. But it's 540? Worth it, leave comments. I don't know.

Ciao!
