So - I'm going.
I bet a handful of you figured this post was coming. I, honestly, thought the ship to Germany sailed on without me. On January 2, I received an e-mail stating I could come three different times throughout the year. I knew this was something I had to do. I prayed about my decision the first time it was offered and I had a peace about declining at the time. But I also had a peace about if I would have the chance to go later in the year. I had others praying, as well, and on Friday, I called and we agreed to be on the same page - I should go.
Now that my arrival date is later, I couldn't argue that this was an amazing opportunity. It is an adventure that I have wanted to complete for a long time. Maybe not the learning German part, but it comes with the challenge. I have wanted to teach and live abroad for a while and this will show me if I can do it. I have broken this down into advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages:
- Resume builder
- Dream goal
- My contract is not forever - I can come home!
- It's Europe and hundreds of miles closer to Italy.
- Challenging myself
- Learning a new language
Disadvantages:
- Missing my family and friends
- Having Skype and Facetime dates -just not the same (but glad to have it!)
- Doing all the running before I leave
- Simply being away from home
- Leaving clothes behind, too.
- Having to learn a new lanuage
Sometimes you take the good and the bad, in this case, the good overrides. I could not foresee this happening. I thought for sure I was living at home for another six months, at least, and subbing. So for now, I am subbing and really excited to start. In between, I'll be calling and going places to be ready to go and say goodbye to friends. Stay tuned as the days creep up on me. I have to go to New York one day soon, so there should be fun pictures from that! Auf Wiedersehen.
