This has been an extra busy week. I've been cooking a little more, watched the game, and made some pizza! So first... Sunday, Kara and I ventured out to try a new pizzeria, Pizzeria Mediterranea. I believe this is the restaurant where they import their ingredients from Naples. I think it has been the best magherita pizza! Afterwards, we spent some time in a friends' apartment. Then we went to the only pub in Perugia showing the Super Bowl! There were many American students and even a few Italians.
Even Chocolate made an appearance!
The game started at 12:30! While I waited for the halftime show, we ordered chips and salsa. Let's just say it wasn't salsa. The "mild salsa" was BBQ sauce and the "hot" was hot sauce. I was very disappointed... it was our closest chance of having an American Super Bowl experience. Then, it was time! Don't get me wrong I enjoy football but the first reason I watch is for the commercials. (Which we didn't get in Italy.) Then for the halftime show! Therefore the highlight -Beyonce! Just imagine six American girls sitting hip to hip in a booth, front row, screaming as "Crazy Love" came on. As well, more screaming when Destiny's Child took the stage. We were surprised because we haven't been following the news. We didn't even find out Beyonce was performing until 3 days before hand. After the show, I stayed for some of the 3rd until the blackout. I went home around 3:30 am.
Then the beginning of the week has been a little chaotic but good! I found time to make my breakfast casserole! Oh, it looks so good but I haven't tried it yet because I made it and left for a pizza workshop!
Quick note: Just tried it. Delicious! |
On Tuesday, 15 students headed to Pizza E Musica to make our own Italian pizzas. First, we got a little history lesson of where pizza originates. For those of you that think, pizza comes for Italy. I'm sorry.
The Dough
Toppings
Although I can't remember exactly what Julie told us, something about Egyptians and the Greeks... well, my mind was focused on what toppings I would put on my pizza. All I know is I believe the Italians have perfected it!
Next we got our hands on lesson. This was our teacher.
He is not originally from Italy but has been here for 11 years. So he did his thing; telling us each step to know to make the perfect pizza.
And then we did ours.... Chocolate, my travel buddy for my first graders, tagged along to the kitchen!
The first step is to make the crust.
Then you must place your hands in the center and make a circular motion. It's make harder than it sounds.
Chocolate called over the professional. My pizza wasn't going as planned.
Next it was time for sauce, cheese, and any extra toppings!
Before your pizza goes in the oven, you must pick up your pizza with this large flat pan without tearing the bottom off!
Then it's off to the oven. A good pizzaolio can cook 6-8 pizzas in an oven without burning them!
It only takes minutes because the oven heats from top to bottom and usually is about 700F.
So you take it out.
Plate it.
And enjoy!
After enjoying every last bite of my hard work, I had my first piece of tiramisu in Italy!
